Pelé is a Brazilian professional footballer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. He is a three-time World Cup winner， and the only player to have won three World Cups.

Pelé was born on October 23， 1940， in Três Corações， Minas Gerais， Brazil. He was the son of Fluminense footballer Dondinho and Celeste Arantes. He began playing football at the age of six， and by the time he was 11 he was playing for a local club.

In 1956， at the age of 15， Pelé was signed by the Brazilian club Santos. In 1958， he became the youngest player to ever appear in a World Cup match. He was instrumental in helping Brazil win its first ever World Cup in 1958.

In 1962， Pelé scored his 100th goal for Santos， which led to him being awarded the title “O Rei do Futebol” (The King of Football). He continued to play for Santos until 1974， when he joined the New York Cosmos.

In 1977， Pelé was named a UN ambassador for ecology and the environment. He was also an advocate for peace， and in 1980 he was made a UNESCO goodwill ambassador.

Pelé is known for his trademark phrase “o jogo bonito” (the beautiful game)， which has become synonymous with the style of football that he embodied. He is also known for his humanitarian work， and has been honoured with numerous awards and honours， including the FIFA Order of Merit and the International Peace Award.
